Motorcycle Camping

Information for Motorcyle Camping Enthusiasts

I’ve always been a motorcycle enthusiast. I’ve been riding since I was 7 and have had some type of motorcycle in my life ever since. About 6 years ago we purchased a new Honda Goldwing and started taking some long distance trips on it. Our longest trip to date was a 1600 mile round trip to Clearwater, Fla. I’ve been on a few motorcycle trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains on different bikes prior to the goldwing, staying in motels and cabins. And I’ve been camping in the mountains quite a few times , going by truck, to carry all the gear. Enjoying both, I thought why not merge the two. So we bought ourselves a little tow behind cargo trailer to haul our camping gear and set out to discover our new adventure of motorcycle camping. Being considerably older than my previous camping experiences I’ve got to say sleeping on the ground in a tent just wasn’t what it used to be. Although I loved the whole idea, I knew I had to find a way to improve the experience. Back to the drawing board. I done some searching on the internet and found a whole new breed of motorcycle camping gear, the pop up camper small enough to be pulled behind a bike. I don’t know if you’ve seen any of these creations in action yet , but I’ve got to say , if you love camping and love motorcycles , this is it. I took my time , looked at several different manufactures and models. We settled on the Aspen Classic. This thing is unbelievable. One person can set it up in under 5 minutes, and has as much storage capacity under the camper as the cargo trailer we were pulling. It sports a king sized bed off the ground and a 5 ft by 6 ft dressing room off the end of the bed. It’s tall enough for someone over 6 ft. to stand upright in and all your gear is easy to get to under the bed. It doesn’t have to be unpacked to use it. I didn’t mean to sound like a commercial for the Aspen. There are a lot of manufacturers offering motorcycle campers now. The Goldwing and the Aspen Classic has given us the freedom we were looking for and most of our vacations these days include both of them. Motorcycle camping has become our preferred way to travel.
